Master Money Mentors
Would you like help figuring out where your money is going, building or improving your credit, creating and maintaining a spending plan, or saving for future goals? The BEST Project has teamed up with the University of Florida Extension to launch Master Money Mentors in the Big Bend. Personal Finance Basics
Managing your money is tough, and everyone has a different opinion about how to do it.  Personal Finance Basics is a series of short, easy-to-follow personal finance lessons.  Our instructors focus on realistic solutions to increase financial stability and long-term economic independence.  Classes are offered to groups throughout the community – at workplaces, community centers and places of worship.

 

Foolproof – Online Financial Education for Teens
Foolproof is an online financial education curriculum featuring fast-paced, interactive lessons targeted to young adults.  In addition, Foolproof offers lesson plans and resources for both teachers and parents.

Personal Finance Basics


Personal Finance Basics is a series of short, easy-to-follow personal finance lessons.  The curriculum was developed by the American Bankers Association Education Foundation.  From the basics of budgeting and saving to the ins and outs of credit and checking accounts, the booklets in the series will help you get started on the road to a successful financial future.

 

Our instructors focus on realistic solutions to increase financial stability and long-term economic independence.  Classes are offered to groups throughout the community – at workplaces, community centers and places of worship.

 

We offer classes on the following topics:

• Checking Accounts
• Budgeting
• Saving
• Credit

Through the Free Financial Education program we’re partnering with financial professionals to teach people about money management.  The Money Smart curriculum, developed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), teaches practical money-management skills and promotes healthy savings habits, credit repair, debt reduction and access to the financial mainstream.  Our instructors focus on realistic solutions to increase financial stability and long-term economic independence.  Classes are offered to groups throughout the community – at workplaces, community centers and places of worship. 

 
The Results

 

    •  265 individuals participated in Money Smart financial education classes taught by BEST Project

       volunteers (Up from 85 in 2009)

 

    •  555 individuals attended financial education seminars provided by CredAbility

 

    •  361 individuals attended budgeting classes at Catholic Charities

 

    •  465 individuals received bankruptcy, budget and housing counseling through CredAbility

Through a partnership with Envision Credit Union, we are able to offer online financial education. FoolProof is an online financial education curriculum featuring fast-paced, interactive lessons targeted to young adults.  In addition, FoolProof offers lesson plans and resources for both teachers and parents.

Money Smart Podcast Network

 

 

For people “on the go,” Money Smart offers a portable audio (MP3) version of its financial curriculum in the Money Smart Podcast Network. Each audio segment is short and contains basic financial information with detailed dialogue so that it is easy to understand. The segments are broken up into four categories: General, Checking & Savings, Budget & Savings, and Credit.

Volunteers Print E-mail

If financial education is your passion, The BEST Project’s financial education programs are the right place for you!

 

Financial Education Instructors teach small groups about money management.  The curriculum teaches practical money-management skills and promotes healthy savings habits, credit repair, debt reduction and access to the financial mainstream.  Classes are offered to groups throughout the community – at workplaces, community centers and places of worship. 

 

Information Ambassadors speak to groups on various topics related to personal finance.  Speaking engagements are typically one-time and range from high school classrooms to clients at UWBB Certified Agencies.

 

Master Money Mentors provide one-on-one financial coaching to help individuals and families take control of their financial lives. Mentors receive intensive training in basic money management, strategies for dealing with financial problems, credit and debt management, savings, mentoring techniques, and connecting to community resources.

 

You don’t have to know it all to work with us! Training classes take place year-round.
